When the Debes family first called us, they weren’t dreaming of adding square footage - they already had it. What they wanted was to finally use it.

Like so many homeowners, they had a basement that was technically finished but didn’t feel like a space they actually wanted to spend time in. Low ceiling tiles, outdated finishes, carpet that had seen better days. It was a room with potential, but no personality. And definitely no flow.

The vision? Open things up, brighten the space, and give the entire basement a fresh purpose… something that felt just as polished and livable as the rest of the house.

We got to work with a full basement renovation plan. That meant demolition, electrical, plumbing, flooring, drywall, and lighting. A true top-to-bottom refresh.

One of the biggest upgrades was replacing the carpet with rich, dark hardwood. It completely changed the feel of the space - warmer, more grounded, and far more refined. We also removed the old ceiling tiles to reveal the natural architecture above, adding both height and a sense of airiness the basement had been missing.

The fireplace, once an afterthought, became a true focal point with a whitewash brick treatment and carefully stained accents. It’s now the anchor of a cozy living area that flows into an entertainment zone with a pool table. Just beyond that, a walk-out patio extends the space even further.

Lighting played a big role too. With the right fixtures in the right places, plus natural light from windows and patio doors, the basement now has the perfect balance of brightness and ambiance - day or night.

In the end, it wasn’t just about making it look good (although it absolutely does). It was about making the space work - for movie nights, rainy-day hangouts, and everything in between.
